as students, faculty and support staff celebrated the 31st annual E-Awards
on April 6.

Election winners:
New SA talks of plans
Journal Staff
Students at Mount Royal elected their new
Students' Association executive last month. Just nine per cent of all eligible
voters cast their ballots in the election. Twelve candidates ran for the
executive positions this year.
The five victors, Sean Fraser, Stephanie Rea, Aric Johnson, Erin Ludwig
and Mark C. Sollis took time out to talk to the Journal about their plans
for next year.

Balcers says goodbye to Mount Royal:
Journalism program losing
one of its best
Journal Staff
The Journalism program is losing one of
its best as senior instructor John Balcers is retiring at the end of this
semester.
Balcers, who is also the publishing editor of the print Journal, has
brought his education and vast journalism experience to Mount Royal students
for 35 years.
Balcers’ past jobs include work for the Albertan, the Calgary Herald
and Time magazine.

Survey a forum
for complaints

A survey and a series of meetings were conducted
by the Students' Association have pinpointed some serious problems with
students who must go on work terms.
"A lot of students had been approaching us with complaints about their
work terms," said VP Academic Jeff Hayes.
Some of the complaints raised were about work placement, career services,
the work term outlines and assessment.

Student banking options:
Apex opens doors to students

Students have another choice in banking
institutions since Apex Credit Union, Room E156, went open bond.
The credit union, which only allowed provincial government employees
to be members, now accepts everyone.
“For the most part, we think it’s very positive,” said Dennis Johnson,
general manager.

The Reflector:
New leader aims to expand
focus

Newly elected publishing editor Brad Needham
says he would like to see The Reflector become more of a student paper
than a journalism paper next year.
Needham, a third-year Journalism students, won the title Mar. 29 and
has plans to change the way the paper is perceived.
